Self-sustaining city

Concept

Kolkata, India, is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Although it is known as the "City of Joy," it also struggles with issues of pollution and environmental vulnerability, making it one of the most climate change-affected urban areas globally. The city presents a stark contrast in terms of financial equality and resource allocation.

Kolkata features one of the most overcrowded and unplanned urban sprawls, yet it is also home to Newtown, which has earned the title of "smart city" from the Government of India. Newtown, a recently developed area, is designed with principles of sustainability, energy efficiency, and climate resilience in mind.

Through my images, I aim to explore how a financially stressed mega city can work towards being environmentally friendly, ensuring basic resources are allocated to its residents and becoming resilient to climate impacts.
