Afghanistan – living with mines

Concept

As part of a book and exhibition project, the pictures shown here show only a sample that documents the much more comprehensive project ‘One Step Beyond – Mines revisited and remembered’. Afghanistan has been at war for almost countless years. A war in which all combatants have never ceased to lay mines in and across entire regions. Today, the Afghan people must live with this deadly legacy of war. They live with the mines - and many Afghans even live with the memory of their encounters with mines Life after such encounters is never the same as it was before. In a country like Afghanistan, this is by no means the fate of the few. Experts estimate that clearing the mines may take up to 20 years.
